My vehicle remote starts, but then immediately shuts off. How do I solve this issue?

The most common reason for a vehicle to start, then immediately shut off is engine checking. Compustar systems monitor voltage or tachometer signals from your vehicle to know exactly when the vehicle has started. If there is something wrong with one of these signals, or they’ve changed; you may need to re-learn your vehicle’s tachometer signal to our unit. This is done very simply using the following steps:

  1. Start your vehicle’s engine (Use your Key or Push-to-Start button)
  2. Press and hold the foot brake down.
  3. While keeping your foot on the brake, press the remote start button on your remote control for 3 seconds like you are remote starting the vehicle. Your parking lights will flash once. (If they flash more than once, you may have to visit the dealer/installer)
  4. Turn the vehicle OFF.
  5. Retry starting your car with your remote control.

If re-learning the tachometer does not work, you may need to visit your installer/dealer for further troubleshooting.  Also, it is important to think of anything that has changed in the vehicle since it remote started last. Did you change the battery, add LED lights to the interior or tail lamps? When you visit your installer/dealer, they will want to know of any changes that have been made that may assist in troubleshooting.

I had CompuStar installed last week. Since then my car engine had shut off twice during driving! 1st time it happened when I was in the neighborhood driving 20 m/h, 2nd time I just got the highway and was driving about 45 m/h. Fortunately both times no one was behind me. I'm terrified to think if that happens on a highway at 70 m/h. The car has push button. The installer said the engine has 25 minutes shut off timer. I don't recall how long I was driving both times, is it possible engine shuts off 25 minutes later regardless if it's on drive mode or parking?

I'm having the same issue when its colder than 0 degrees. The car turns over completely fine when i get in to try, even on -30 (Canada). Definitely something up with the starter...

    Hi Yelena,

Sorry for the delayed response. Are you still experiencing this issue? If so, please make an appointment with your technician to have this install verified. It sounds like you may have a brake status error. If possible, please make the appointment during our business hours; we can have the installer connect with one of our techs to check system functionality.

    Thank you.

    Neximous Prime,

Subaru has lower than suggested CCA ratings on the batteries that come with the car. This is a known problem and is well documented on all Subaru forums. The remedy for this is to either upgrade the battery to a CCA rating of 600 or more; or remove the bypass module from the vehicle and put a key under the dashboard instead. The key code can be grabbed at a low voltage, but the data module can't emulate the key code directly with the voltage going low during low temperatures. Basically, the motor takes many amps to crank and the voltage will drop below 10 volts during engine cranking. This voltage is too low for our module to operate properly and send a proper key code... but if you put a key under the dash in a special locked and sealed key box; the key code can be taken from that at any voltage.

    Thank you.

I bought a used car with a CompuStar system.  I am the 3rd owner, the 2nd owner had the same problem as I but did not bother fixing it.  The car starts and shuts down and repeats that several times until I shut it down with the remote.  I tried to remap it to the tachometer a couple times but it did not work.  I have no idea where to bring the car to get it checked out.  Any information or guidance would be greatly appreciated.
