DroneMobile has the ability to be used for GPS tracking, if you subscribe to the premium subscription plan. The most common way to use the GPS is to do a 'Get Location'. From the application select the Map tab from the bottom of the screen and it will perform a 'Get Location' and show the most recent location stored in the device. In order to update the location press the refresh button on the top right of the screen.
If the Drone hasn't been used recently you may notice that the first time you perform a 'Get Location' it may pull up an old location; similarly, you may notice in the history log that it will say "GPS not current". If this is the case, do not worry, as this is normal functionality for the DroneMobile. Every Drone unit is programmed to have the GPS go into a sleep mode after a half hour of non usage, in order to save vehicle battery life. At the point the Drone enters the GPS sleep mode it will store the location at that time as your last known location. The first function that you perform with the Drone at that point will report in the history log using that last known location and as a "GPS not current". Following this first signal the Drone unit will attempt to lock on with a GPS signal. Therefore, it may take multiple attempts of a 'Get Location' in order for the unit to pull up the current location of the vehicle.
The time it takes for the GPS signal to lock onto your Drone unit can vary from 30 seconds to 5 minutes. It is recommended by our staff to wait 2 to 5 minutes to allow the GPS time to lock on. The cause of this time variance is normally due to the location of the vehicle. Obstructions such as buildings and parking garages may delay the time it will take for the GPS signal to lock on.
If the GPS 'Get Location' continues to give the wrong GPS location after the vehicle has an opportunity to lock on it could be due to an issue with the placement of the unit in the vehicle or an issue with the GPS antenna on the unit. In this case it is recommended to take the vehicle back to the original installer for assistance.
